Folk narrative and mythology about spiritual transformation, miracles, magic, and the paranormal fuel these paintings, drawings, and collages. Through the process of dismantling and reinvention, the images, colors, and patterns are fragmented and amalgamated into new form. To me, each of these images functions as a yantra - a depiction of mystical experience that can be returned to again and again...like a vehicle that takes us to a destination whenever we choose. Yantras function better as a group and believed to be more powerful that way. Therefore, my current body of work, From One Tongue Came Thousands More” reimagines a group of deities, avatars, and personal experiences into a powerful machine of liberation.
